THE DESIGNER, Michal Mor
Michal, is an Israeli – the daughter of a refugee from North Africa who migrated from Spain, and is part of a family that spans three continents. She has five years of formal Fine Art education and spent 14 years working in the design industry, from apparel to advertising. In 2001, Michal launched a successful wholesale distribution company for women's accessories, cultivating relationships with designers and industry professionals along the way. In 2009, her dream of integrating her art with her passion for women’s issues started to take shape. 7 Stitches was founded on the heels of those talents and desires.
A collaboration of women from seven continents was formed, collecting embroidery work old and new. A stitch from every continent inspired the name 7 Stitches.
Once the raw material is collected at the studio, Michal starts the design process, all the while being sensitive to the material, where it came from, and what way her design will tell the story best. Once pieces and samples are finalized into a collection, she collaborates with refugee women who have resettled in San Diego after persecutions and genocide in their countries and together they embellish, stitch, repair and complete the work. A dream takes shape.
