Ethnic Celebration comes to us from the The Hmong Tribe (translation, Free People) who lives in the mountains of Thailand and South East Asia. These tribes extend from Mongolia to Tibet, Laos Thailand Burma and even Cambodia. Many have been singled out for retribution and fled to Thailand seeking political asylum. Some made it to the USA in spite of the unrest and with no home to call their own they continue to produce such colorful happy woven fabrics that one has to admire the joy for life they carry with them.

Pieces in this collection had been made of used and discarded ceremonial skirts that we mended cleaned and refined to bring out their original look and color. Each original piece was made for a special occasion - and you get to share it! Once items are ready to be worked with and prepped in our studio, Michal determines the look and the feel of the collection. Samples are made in the studio and the talents of our local San Diego refugees are utilized for the production of the pieces. Final touches are added with beads and trims collected from around the world to complete these items into wearable art - giving them life again. The Ethnic Celebration pieces area limited edition collection, and will only last as long as we can purchase these unique handmade embroideries. Thai ceremonial skirts were purchased through fair trade vendors who all share our passion of distributing the world's wealth fairly, and making sure artists are compensated for their art while working conditions are of the highest standard.
